Gotta Love Good Ol' Martin....

“After Lucas, the artist, had taken a wife and the wedding was over, he always desired to be next to his bride. He had a good friend who said to him, ‘Friend, don’t do that. Before a half-year is gone you will have had enough of that. There won’t be a maid in your house whom you won’t prefer to your wife.’ And so it is. We hate the things that are present and we love those that are absent. As Ovid wrote, ‘What we may have [does not please us]; it’s what we may not have that excites our passion.’ This is the weakness of our nature. Then the devil comes and introduces hatred, suspicion, and concupiscence on both sides, and these cause desertion. It’s easy enough to get a wife, but to love her with constancy is difficult. A man who can do this has reason to thank our Lord for it. Accordingly, if a man intends to take a wife, let him be serious about it and pray to God, ‘Dear Lord God, if it be thy divine will that I continue to live without a wife, help me to do so. If not, bestow upon me a good, pious girl with whom I may spend all my life, whom I hold dear, and who loves me.’”

Martin Luther, Table Talk [WA TR V no. 5524] p. 214.

The Lord Giveth and the Lord Taketh Away, Blessed be the Name of the Lord

A couple weeks ago, I had posted a link to a sermon by Matt Chandler. Just this past Thanksgiving morning, he suffered a seizure and through later testing, the doctors found a tumor on his brain. Please keep his health and young family in your prayers. Here is a link to their family blog. Praise God they are in perfect peace and are trusting in our Father in heaven who is Sovereign over all things, even our suffering!

One of the Best Sermons....

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I was very humbled today by listening to a SBTS Chapel Sermon by Matt Chandler. Please take time to watch/listen to it here.

May God pierce our hearts and may we be cleansed only by His suffering.

Rowen Daniel- The Delivery Day Story

So please forgive me for posting so late! I have been wanting to sit down and put a bunch of pictures up, but I haven't been very organized the last week..... :)

Last Tuesday, delivery day, was very interesting! Here is the story:

I woke up around 3:30am to shortness of breath and talked with my midwife who gave me two choices: Go to ER or go to the office for a BP check at 8am. I chose the latter. I figured I would let them make that decision. After seeing the midwife and all my vitals were decent (mind you not quite normal, but normal enough). They said to go to ER.....arriving at the hospital by 9am, I quickly was given an IV port just in case anything came up and started doing BIG tests. After an X-RAY, CAT scan, and EKG (wanting to rule out the worst case scenario....a blood clot in the lungs), everything turned out fine. There was a little trace of protein in my urine and my BP was high for me, but still in normal range. Both are signs of pre-ecclampsia.....BAD! They still couldn't figure out why I had continued to have trouble breathing. The ER doc gave me two options: Go upstairs and wait to hear from my OB and midwife or go back to the office to have them give me an exam to see if inducement would be feasible.

At the office, Kim, one of my midwives checked me and I was already 3cm and almost completely effaced, and she had good reason to believe my body was in pre-labor due to my stressed condition and that we might be looking at pre-ecclampsia to hit hard soon. With all of that, Kyle and I went right back to St. Joe's and were admitted to the 14th floor, Labor and Delivery. I was given a "natural" inducement pill that takes about 1-3 hrs to see results from and sure enough after an hour, I was feeling some slight contractions.

At 7:45, Kim broke my water and the Lord graciously gave me my breath back! Yay!, but the pain had just begun! Four hours and ten minutes later Rowen Daniel was out and I was so glad to be done and Kyle was so excited to have him born on 9-29-09. :)

Labor was way harder this time, but WAY shorter and worth every minute. My precious little man has been such a blessing and we are praying that the Lord would use him for His kingdom and glory! What a joy it is for me to have the responsibility to raise 2 God-fearing men for Christ! I am so thankful!!

I will post more pictures as the time permits me to. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for praying for Kyle, myself, and Rowen during this time. What a joy it is to have the knowledge that my sisters and brothers are lifting us up to the Throne of Grace and that Christ himself is interceding as well. What a gift it is to be the daughter of the King!

Love to you all! Paige

Rowen Daniel Patterson - September 29th 2009

On Tuesday September 29th at 11:55pm, God gave the gift of a son to the Patterson family. He was a healthy 8 lbs 1 oz and was 20.5 inches.
While those facts are often the first to be asked they are of the least importance. If he had a cleft palate, and was blind, would he be loved and cherished any less? I am sure the answer would be no from any normal person. The physical statistics are fun to know and compare with what others have had, but as I watched his amazing gift come out of the womb, and breath his first, I was struck with the wonder of God, and His grace in giving us our own life and breath, let alone showering on us the joy that comes from a child of our own. God is so good and kind to us in a thousand difference ways. Thank you Lord for your Mercy. While I would be lying if I said I didn't look to see if he had all his fingers on toes, the questions of stature are of little significance. But it's still okay to ask, I ask them too. :)

Thanking God for our new son, Kyle
(Paige will give you all the details in a later post!)

Fair Pictures~Due in 1 Week!!

Here are a few pictures from last week. We are busy this week with (hopefully) our last OB appointment on Tuesday, youth group, meetings, and class (for Kyle). I will be trying to naturally induce my labor per my husband's request with a pressure point massage, drinking a special tea, and "getting on the birth ball" in other words the exercise ball to open my hips up....I know sounds weird! But they say it helps! Anyway we are enjoying what could be our last full week of having only one child that is outside the womb and continuing to have our
pre-pre-school lessons which may come to a halt for a few weeks when Rowen arrives. God has been so good to me this pregnancy and I am truly grateful! I have been way less swollen than last time and able to stay somewhat active enough to take care of our regular commitments and duties. Thank the Lord for His care! I will let you know of my status this week and keep you updated until labor begins. My friend Lisa will update our Facebook page for all of our friends who are wanting info on the arrival of Rowen Daniel. They are a few of you whom we will call for sure and you all know who you are! :)
Love, Paige
Here is the belly! 38weeks

Nana and Papa came and brought us dinner afterwards.

Dada and Gunny's annual Petting farm picture.

I really think Gunnar has a special love for animals. (Unlike his mother.)

He was so giddy and content there for a good half hour. We had to

tell him to go otherwise he would have slept there with them!

I think his shirt is wet with lemonade.

Gunn loves horses! They are his favorite!

Less Than 2 Weeks to Go!

Well, we had a Midwife appointment yesterday and everything with baby Rowen is well and found out he has descended a little bit, but has not completely dropped yet. I am almost 2cm dilated and 80% effaced. Pretty good for not being in too much pain! :) Looks like the due date is a good time for him to come out! We have our bags packed and car seat in the car. Boy, do those car seats take up a lot of room!

You will hear back from me soon! We walked around the fair again yesterday before taking my aunt back to the airport and have so many pictures to show! I will make more time tomorrow to get those up so you can enjoy! Until then, gotta run!

Love, Paige

The Fair!

My sweet little niece Trudy and Gunnar on the swing....I love watching them get bigger and they are so sweet to one another. We had a blast and love being able to go and enjoy ourselves! Praise God for His goodness!
P.S. Not feeling any contractions lately. Two weeks to go and are looking forward to it! I'll keep you posted. We have an appt. on Tues!

Two Weeks and 3 Days Left

After an appointment yesterday, everything is great. Baby is cooperating as well as can be expected and we are all registered for our Birth Center. I am feeling changes in my body, so things are working! Kyle is very excited to meet our little guy and I am excited to see what he is going to look like! Everyone has been very gracious to us and many ways, so thank you all for your thoughtfulness and support! God provides in every way and more! "Talk" to you soon!

3 Weeks to Go!

Well, progression has been the same this past week as it was the week before. Things are good and we are prepared (I think) for the arrival of Rowen Daniel.

We had a great time at the fair on Friday with all of the Pattersons. Gunnar rode on his first ride with cousin Trudy. They went on the giant swing (the one where you go in big circles while elevating up and down.) He loved it and waved every time he past by. What a big guy! Gunnar loves Trudy especially because she acts like a mini mama to him! :) After eating our Krusty Pup, Papa, Dada, Uncle Jeff, and Nana took the kids to the Rodeo. Kyle said he loved it!

Aunt Gail is coming to visit us this weekend and we always look forward to seeing her! We will take some pictures for you and I will get some up of the fair.

God is kind to us all the time and we are thankful for His Providence. Remember, "there is a time for everything", says Solomon! Sometimes it's not in our timing though. Thankfully God is wiser and Sovereign over all!

Love, Paige

36 Weeks and Counting!

Here is another baseball game picture courtesy of Alison and Joel who invited us to tag along! We are slowly but surely preparing for baby Rowen this week and have all our bags packed just in case. Kyle thinks I will push this baby out early. I, on the other hand, would love that to be true, but am very leary! Time will tell us, and in the mean time will trust that the Lord will keep our little guy safe and growing well. We can't wait for this new adventure!
Love in the Name of Christ,
Paige
